Job Title:Manager, Political Action CommitteeDepartment:Government AffairsSupervisor’s Title:Director, Grassroots and Political AffairsJob Summary: This section focuses on the main purpose of the job in one to four sentences.Work with the Director, Grassroots and Political Affairs on the execution of the duties and responsibilities of the political action committee and dermatology advocacy network administration, including fundraising, member involvement and contribution strategies.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This section contains a list of five to eight essential duties/responsibilities of this role that account for 5% of more of the work. To perform this job successfully, individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.1.Monitor all developments legislative, regulatory, professional, and technical that directly impact activities of the American Academy of Dermatology Association’s political action committee (SkinPAC).2.Generate strategies for fundraising, disbursements, FEC reporting and compliance, membership retention and growth, and recognition programs of SkinPAC. Work with other Academy staff, as necessary, to implement these strategies.3.Educate Academy members and key staff members regarding the organization, goals, and activities of SkinPAC and the Academy’s political programs. Establish and maintain liaison with the relevant staff on the campaign committees for federal lawmakers, national parties, medical societies and other organizations. Cultivate, facilitate, and coordinate SkinPAC members’ participation in political events.4.Report to the Director, Grassroots and Political Affairs and, when requested, to AADA leadership on matters pertaining to SkinPAC and political issues.5.Assist the Director, Grassroots and Political Affairs, the Senior Director of Government Affairs and the Deputy Executive Director, AADA, in administrative activities, as assigned.6.Draft policy statements and guidance, and other communications to advance the goals of SkinPAC to membership. Respond to inquiries from SkinPAC members, AADA members, committees representing candidates and political parties, the Federal Election Commission (FEC), and other government agencies, organizations, and individuals.7.Provide overall staffing and liaison services to the SkinPAC Board of Advisors in conjunction with the chair of the board. This includes drafting meeting agendas, coordinating meetings and conference calls, drafting programs/strategies to be discussed on the agenda, drafting and circulating summation reports, tracking follow-ups, assisting with the developing and monitoring of the board’s budget, and ensuring that annual reports are complete. The staff liaison will work with the chair to ensure that the business of the board is accurately recorded and placed on the agenda of the AADA Board of Directors. Staff liaison will develop and maintain knowledge of the board’s area of expertise and work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers.Supervisory and/or Management Responsibilities: This section contains the supervisory and/or management responsibilities of this role.1.Teamwork – Promotes teamwork and works with others in a collaborative and interdependent way. Ability to build credibility with members and board members. Must be collaborative, self-directed, possess initiative, and be able to multitask. Must have extensive knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory processes affecting fundraising, and experience with political campaigns.Minimum qualifications: List the minimum level of education and experience required to perform the job.Bachelor’s degree in political science or other relevant field required. Minimum five years relevant fundraising experience in government and/or private sector advocacy is required, preferably with a health-related organization.Success Factors: This section contains characteristics/competencies that contribute to an individual’s ability to excel on the job.
